Thank You Ward 7!

I appreciate everyone's patience waiting for this note now that I've gotten a bit more caught up on some lost sleep, family time, work commitments, and yes--prepping for another city council meeting already🫡

I'm incredibly grateful for the faith you placed in my ability to represent the diverse opinions of our community. I'm especially thankful for all the opened doors and wonderful conversations I had with New North Enders of all political persuasions. It's truly what I value most about this work. I remain deeply committed to approaching the hard work ahead with an eye towards our future sustainability as a livable city.

I want you all to know that in past few months of knocking on doors, calling folks, attending community meetings, and engaging with all of our neighbors who reach out to me, I have heard the message loud and clear: We need relief. More on that below.

I would like to take a moment to offer some extra thanks to the superstars who rolled up their sleeves to help keep me at the Council table. First, Zach Cummings, who stepped up to serve as my Campaign Manager. He never missed a beat. I've been committed to working towards a safer, for inviting downtown and, as a downtown resident, Zach saw that and jumped in to help. I look forward to seeing more of Zach's leadership and hard work for our city in the future.

Shout outs are due to Dave Hartnett and Mark Barlow for their excellent sign installation skills and for always asking how can I help? Abbey Duke for remaining my steadfast and trusty treasurer! Carmen George for her caring commitment to our ward, always volunteering, and making sure I ate something. Michaella C., Stephanie Y., and Alex S. for helping me get flyers to all their neighbors when weather and time stood in the way. Kurt Wright and the Morning Drive team for having me on air to discuss the issues. Everyone who donated to my reelection campaign--every dollar truly mattered this year! And of course my many neighbors and elected leaders who endorsed me and Shirin Hart for her solid advice and kind support.

Why I’m Running

I first arrived in Burlington from Montpelier over 20 years ago to attend UVM. Like many young people, after graduation I left for Boston in the pursuit of professional opportunities with higher wages. Each time I returned to Vermont for visits I always knew I was home when I stepped out of my car and breathed in the clean, crisp, winter air. People said hello as they passed by and had openness to connection. I missed that. Seven years later I found myself moving back to Vermont, landing in Burlington from Williston in 2019.

Our home looks different than I remember it in 2001. New buildings, parks, public art, restaurants, and stores. Farmer’s Market has grown and construction projects abound. Every place changes, and Burlington is certainly no exception to that reality. It’s our job to make sure it changes for the better. Our community’s beauty, safety, vibrance, and sense of welcome didn’t come about overnight. Generations of neighbors came together to address the problems and opportunities of the day with the aim of leaving a home that is exponentially better for generations that came after them. Whether you’re newly arrived or generationally rooted in Burlington, I see that deep commitment to community care reflected in interactions every day.

I’m running for City Council because I am up for the task in stewarding that vision of a safe, healthy, and lively future for this lakeside cultural hub we call home. I will work hard to:

-       Preserve all our beautiful city has to offer,

-       Boldly address the critical issues of our day (especially public safety and affordability),

-       Realize sustainable solutions for all of our neighbors who need assistance,

-       Progress our future-oriented projects creatively and pragmatically

We have made some solid progress in the past two years and I see blue skies ahead for Burlington.

I appreciate all support for my candidacy as Ward 7’s representative on the City Council and I hope you will join me in solution-oriented work towards this shared vision together if elected.

Thank You Ward 7 Democrats!

I want to thank all of my Ward 7 neighbors who supported me in the Democratic caucus on January 5th. For those of you who weren’t able to attend virtually or in-person, I welcome you to hear what I shared with voters about why I’m running, my vision for Burlington’s future, and my commitments to you.
